Athletic Hall of Fame Bylaws

 

Purpose-

 

The purpose of the Lincoln University Athletic Hall of Fame is to pay tribute to and preserve the memory of those student-athletes, teams, coaches, members of the athletic staff and others who contributed in an outstanding manner to intercollegiate athletics at Lincoln University and whose lives exemplify the values acquired through intercollegiate athletics.

 

Categories-

 

Two types of honorees shall be selected:

  • An early era nominee is any student-athlete, team, coach or athletic staff member who excelled athletically or contributed significantly to athletics at Lincoln University between twenty years or prior to the year of election.
  • An early era nominee is any student-athlete, team, coach or athletic staff member who excelled athletically or contributed significantly to athletics at Lincoln University between five and twenty years prior to the year of election.

 

Nomination Rules-

 

A.    The nomination must be submitted on an official nomination form.

B.     The nomination form must be completely filled out and submitted by the deadline for inclusion in that year's voting.

C.    Attachments, if any, must accompany the nomination form.

D.    Nominations shall remain active for five years.

 

Qualifications for Nominations-

 

A.    An athlete shall not be considered for recognition until at least five years after he / she would have completed his/her eligibility.

B.     An athlete must have earned a minimum of two varsity letters at Lincoln University.

C.    If a coach, athletic administrator or athletic staff member is nominated, he/she must have been on the staff of Lincoln for at least five years and have terminated his/her service with the University at least five years prior to being nominated. No more than two individuals per year shall be inducted from this category.

D.    The records of the person considered should be so outstanding that there is no question as to the nominee's qualifications.

E.     A team shall not be considered until five years after the completion of the season in which it excelled.

F.     Team selection does not preclude a member of that team from being nominated as a individual candidate. "Team" refers only to team sports as defined by NCAA.

G.    Qualifications and criteria shall be based upon the nominee's participation whole attending Lincoln University and may include accomplishments after leaving the University.

H.    Consideration shall be given to the nominee's academic  performance, graduation status, conduct in life ad contributions to the high ideals of intercollegiate athletics.

 

During the first year, there shall be no fewer than (8) honorees, with four (4) from the early era and four (4) from the modern era. After the first year there shall be no fewer than two (2) or more than seven (7) student-athletes honorees per year (with no more than six (6) from the modern era). Special awards and inductions shall be considered and made because of unusual contributions and performances. These exceptions shall not be restricted by above bylaws B and C.

 

Committee Selection-

 

The selection committee of the Hall of Fame shall be chaired by an individual selected by the committee as a whole. The committee shall meet annually, with special meetings at the call of the Chair and/or the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

 

Voting-

 

The vote of the Selection Committee shall be by secret ballot and shall be conducted at the annual meeting of the committee. Notification of the annual meeting shall be given to the committee in writing at least thirty days in advance. All inductees must have received minimum of seventy-five percent (75%) affirmative vote from the Selection Committee. If the seventy-five percent (75%) affirmative vote is not a whole number, the number shall be rounded down to the nearest whole number.  No member shall vote for more than eight (8) nominees in the initial year or more than seven (7) nominees in each year thereafter and no more than six (6) from the modern era. Voting again shall be mandatory following discussion of vote tabulation if the maximum number is exceeded the top seven (7) nominees with the most votes will be inducted. All voting, including any second voting, shall be by secret written ballot.

 

Induction Ceremony-

 

Time, place and manner in which the new inductees shall enter the Lincoln University Athletic Hall of Fame shall be at the discretion of the Athletic Committee. The inductee or his / her designee is expected to attend the induction ceremony.  Inductees who are deceased or incapacitated shall be represented by an individual chosen by the honoree, the honoree's family or the Selection Committee.

 

General Information-

 

A majority of the members of the Selection Committee shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business at any regular or special meeting. The Bylaws of the Athletic Hall of Fame may be altered, amended or repealed by a majority vote of the Athletic Committee and with the approval of the President of the University. Changes may be instigated by the Athletic Committee or may be recommended by the Selection Committee.

 

 Deadline for nominations to be sent in is July 1, 2008.
