Reading Room Procedure

1)                  Patrons are required to complete the Research Request Form, located at the front desk, before conducting research.

2)                  All patrons conducting research must show a valid, photo ID.

3)                  Patrons are required to leave all personal property, except for a pencil and one notebook (no pens), in the lockers provided.  Pencils and loose scrap paper are provided.  Oversized items that cannot fit in the locker must be left with the attendant in the reception area.  The University Archives/Ethnic Studies Center is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items.

4)                  With permission from the archivist, patrons may have materials for reference on their table, where all research must be conducted unless otherwise noted.  We reserve the right to search any notes or belongings.

5)                  Patrons may have one box or volume at their table and no more than 10 items pulled at one time.

6)                  Because materials are unique and fragile, patrons are asked to handle these items with great care.  Please remove only one folder at a time from a box.  This is to ensure that we maintain the original order of the folders in the box and materials in the folder.

7)                  NO FOOD OR DRINK ALLOWED IN THIS AREA.

8)                  As a courtesy to other patrons, please turn off your cell phone ringer.  Per Page Library policy all cell phone use is restricted to the Study Area on the main level (floor 2).

9)                  Collection materials are non-circulating and may not be removed from the archival area without prior authorization.  Materials may not be removed from their protective covers for any reason.  No marks may be added or erased, and no tracing or rubbing is allowed.  THEFT OR MUTILATION OF ARCHIVAL DOCUMENTS IS A CRIME THAT IS PUNISHABLE BY LAW.

10)              Patrons needing copies of any materials need to speak with the attendant.  Patrons must obtain written permission before using any document or image in a publication, including school projects—some fees may apply.

11)              Upon the discretion of the Page Library employee, any patron that displays disruptive or damaging behavior will be asked to leave immediately.
