SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH NEWMAN

Lincoln University lost game one 1-0 and won the second 6-2 over Newman University in non-conference play March 4 on the Lincoln University Softball Field.  The Blue Tigers hit the field next on March 6.  It is the first road doubleheader of the season for Lincoln University starting at 1:00 p.m. against the University of Missouri-Rolla.

GAME ONE

Joanne Fluker tossed a two-hit shutout at the Blue Tigers.  She faced two batters over (23) the minimum (21) in garnering a 1-0 victory for Newman University.

Amy Schneider rocked a Nikki Nelke pitch over the leftfield fence in the third inning for a solo home run that served as the game-winning hit.

The Blue Tigers picked up their two hits in the sixth inning.  Beth Arnel singled to centerfield and Ashley Prenger got on with a bunt single.

Arnel was 1-2 (single) at the plate.

GAME TWO

The Blue Tigers (3-3) tagged Jets (2-5) starting pitcher Rachael Kramer for six runs (four earned) on eight hits in the first two innings for a 6-0 lead.  Lincoln University held on for a 6-2 win.

Prenger whacked a triple to right field that started the bottom of the first inning for Lincoln University.  A fly-out by Kelsey Barnard to Kelie Ramirez in leftfield scored Prenger for a 1-0 Blue Tiger lead.  Heather Heimericks doubled to leftfield.  Heimericks moved to third base on an error by second baseman Stacey Hatfield and beat a throw from Hatfield to catcher Michaela Langley at home plate for a 2-0 Blue Tiger lead.  Hatfield misplayed a ball off the bat of Abby Stuenkel to give Heimericks an opportunity to score.

A one-out single by Nelke to centerfield opened the three-run second inning for Lincoln University.  Karen Plaster singled down the leftfield line, moving Nelke to second.  Prenger reached on an error by third baseman Shelly Van Horn to load the bases.  Barnard pushed Nelke home, Plaster to third and Prenger to second with a fly-out to right fielder Amy Bullerman for a 3-0 advantage.  Lesley Osborne singled home Plaster and moved Prenger to third.  A double by Heimericks scored Prenger for a 5-0 Lincoln University lead.

Asia Coleman began the third inning with a single and stole second base.  Coleman crossed home plate for a 6-0 Blue Tiger lead when Arnel doubled to right centerfield.

The Jets scored twice in the fifth inning.  Lisa Carraway singled down the right field line.  A single to centerfield by Schneider allowed Carraway to move to second base.  A passed ball gave the Jets runners on second and third base.  Carraway scored and Schneider moved to third on a single by Bullerman to make the score 6-1.  Schneider tagged home plate for a 6-2 score after a fly-out from Bullerman to Plaster in leftfield.

Newman University left the bases loaded in the fifth inning and stranded a runner at second base in the seventh.

Prenger was 3-4 (triple, two singles).  Heimericks was 2-3 (two doubles), one walk, scored once and had a Run-Batted-In.  Arnel went 1-2 (double, single) with a RBI.

Nelke (3-3) was the winning pitcher, while Kramer took the loss.
