BLUE TIGERS LOSE ON BUZZER-BEATER
In a closely contested rematch between Southwestern Oklahoma State University (3-6) and Lincoln University (1-8), the home team Bulldogs won 65-62. Dru Tomaszewski of Southwestern Oklahoma hit a shot at the buzzer on Dec. 9 to erase a six-point Lincoln University advantage and snatch a win away from the Blue Tigers.
The Bulldogs were victorious on Nov. 15, 60-54 over the Blue Tigers in Jason Gymnasium, the season opener for both teams.
The heartbreaking loss in Weatherford, Okla. was the Blue Tigers fourth loss this season of 10 points or less. Lincoln University shot a season high 60 percent (6-10) from three-point range and a second best season effort of 46.2 percent from the field, but were out-rebounded 35-30. It was the sixth time this season the Blue Tigers have lost the rebounding battle. Turnovers continue to plague the Blue Tigers as they racked up 20 total. It was the Blue Tigers fifth game of year with more than 15 turnovers.
Brezette Elder-Wade scored 17 points for Lincoln University. Tiffannie Wolfe got her second double-double of the campaign with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Nakea Bates added a career high 11 points for the Blue Tigers.
Tomaszewski and Jeri Gilmore each netted 15 points for the winners.
The Blue Tigers hit the road again on Dec. 16 taking on Washburn University (Topeka, Kan.) at 3:00 p.m. Washburn is No. 1 in the latest USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. The Lady Blues lost for the first time in 40 regular season games in Lee Arena on Dec. 9 to Missouri Western 76-68. The defeat ended the Lady Blues 26-game Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association unbeaten streak.
