Admission to Lincoln University

Lincoln University admits students who may benefit from and contribute to its educational programs. The University tries to provide each applicant the opportunity for a college education.

The following groups of applicants are eligible for admission to Lincoln University:

  • Any Missouri resident with a high school diploma or GED (General Educational Development) certificate.

In accordance with Missouri state law and with the policy set forth by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education, no student who is a U.S. citizen shall be eligible to register as a resident of the state of Missouri unless he/she has been a bona fide resident of the state for at least one year immediately preceding the date of his/her original or subsequent enrollment. A student who has moved to Missouri for the primary purpose of obtaining higher education shall not be considered a bona fide resident of the state.

The residence of an unmarried minor student is fixed by the residence of the parent(s) or bona fide guardian with whom the student resides.

A student not residing in Missouri, claiming to be wholly or in part by relatives residing in Missouri, may not claim exemption from the non-resident fee.

An international student must possess at least resident alien status as determined by relevant federal statutes before being considered for residency as defined above.

A student shall neither gain nor lose resident status solely as a consequence of military service. For the purpose of student resident status, military personnel, when stationed within the state of Missouri pursuant to military orders, their spouses and unemancipated minor children shall be regarded as holding Missouri resident status. However, a member of the military forces who is specifically assigned, under orders, to attend a Missouri institution of higher education as a full-time student shall be classified, along with his/her spouse and unemancipated minor children, as if he/she has no connection with the military forces.

Lincoln University, as required by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education, has established review procedures for the appeal of residency status when valid doubt arises. The student seeking a determination regarding residency status shall submit the required documentation to the Office of Admissions where an initial determination will be made. The student will be informed of that determination in writing which shall be considered final. The burden of proof shall be on the student. Anyone desiring additional information should consult the Missouri Register, 6 CSR 10-3.010, "Residency Determination Procedure."

  • Any non-resident graduating from high school with an average of at least "C" or having a GED certificate, or any international student applicant deemed qualified to undertake academic work at Lincoln University. A non-resident is any student not meeting the above qualifications for Missouri residency.

Applicants should address all questions and requests for application forms to the Office of Admissions, Lincoln University, 820 Chestnut Street, B-7 Young Hall, Jefferson City, MO 65101. Applicants should return all application materials to the Office of Admissions at least four weeks prior to registration so that their status may be determined.

As soon as all application materials are received by the University, they will be evaluated and applicants will be notified of the decision on their application for admission. The University reserves the right to reject any applicant whose character or scholastic record is unsatisfactory.

Admission to the Nursing Program or the Teacher Education Program requires both admission to the University and approval of the prospective departmental area (Department of Nursing Science or Education).
