MISSION

The mission of Environmental Science program is to provide educational opportunities for students from various backgrounds to be successful in a complex, technological and diverse society. The program is dedicated to teaching the principles and concepts of environmental science and demonstrating how it applies to our natural and social environment; provides major with current and relevant programs that prepare them for employment or professional advancement and conducts laboratory and research experiences for undergraduates that reinforce learning and applications of empirical methods of science. The program accomplishes its goals through small classes and individual attention in a nurturing educational environment.

The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that environmental science as and occupation will experience faster than average growth through 2012.
 
The Environmental Science degree program provides a solid foundation for students interested in pursuing advanced degrees, and/or for careers with agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the USDA, ARS, NRCS, Forestry Service, U.S. Department of the Interior, the Department of Energy, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense and various state agencies such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Transportation and the Department of Natural Resources.

The Center of Excellence to Environmental Sciences at Lincoln University, with support primarily by the Department of Defense, Army Research Office and in partners with academic, industrial, and army communities in Missouri, aims to provide excellence of education to diverse students for training highly competitive workforce that is able to address army concerns in environmental field through innovative teaching and experimental-learning and to provide quality research that address army-related environmental issues through multidisciplinary integrated approach of and develop sustainable solutions to the problems.
