Job Title: Program Educator Assistant II (Southwest Research & Education Center in Mt.Vernon,MO) Code#B2-312

Description: The successful candidate will identify socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers (SDFs) in the Southwest and South Central Regions; conduct farm visits to investigate the needs from SDFs; establish demonstration plot for specialty crops that can be used for field days; organize workshops for disseminating and helping SDFs to participate in appropriate programs from the United State Department of Agriculture and Missouri State Agencies such as Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, Missouri Department of Agriculture and National Sustainable Agriculture Information Service; organize workshops and field days to train participating SDFs on sustainable agricultural practices in growing specialty crops including native plants and raising small ruminants. The incumbent will work with extension specialists from campus as well as satellite offices; cultivate relations with various community, state and federal stakeholders. Frequent travel is required for this position. Position Deadline: Dec. 15, 2009 or until filled. Qualifications: An earned B.S. degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Animal Science, Ag-Economy or related areas; a good perception of Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers; and strong written and oral communication skills, and computer proficiency. Experience working with SDFs and ability to speak/write Spanish or Hmong languages preferred.
