Description: This position will be located at 900 Riverview Drive in St. Louis, Missouri. The successful candidate will: develop and deliver effective research-based educational programs in the area of Horticulture that support youth, families, farmers, community partners and Lincoln University Extension staff in St. Louis, Missouri and the surrounding area; secure extramural funds to support area Horticulture programming; manage an Extension program budget as well as any budgets resulting from grants and other extramural funding; maintain knowledge and skills in horticulture research through review of professional literature, participate in conferences and continuing education; and cultivate relationships with various community, state, and federal agencies and where appropriate, works in partnership with the University of Missouri Extension to execute the responsibilities of this position. Qualifications: Qualifications: Required qualifications are: a Master of Science in Horticulture or closely related agricultural field; at least two years of direct experience working in the field of Horticulture; strong written and oral communication skills; and at least two years of working with ethnically diverse, limited resource (financial and/ or educational) individuals, families and farmers, in informal group settings. Preferred qualifications are: experience with urban and community gardening; experience creating educational materials written for adults who read at or below a sixth grade reading level; the ability to understand, write and speak Spanish; demonstrated success in writing grant proposals and receiving grant funds and experience using distance learning technology to deliver educational programs. The Regional Educator: Exercises considerable independence and initiative in the performance of responsibilities; receives general administrative direction. Travels, works evenings and weekends. Possesses a valid driver's license and has access to a passenger vehicle. Performs other related work as assigned.
