| Description: | The candidate will develop and implement statewide extension and applied research programs that focus on the improvement of production, quality and profitability of fruit crops by small scale producers, especially by socially disadvantaged farmers. Programs will emphasize integrated and sustainable production systems including the incorporation of organic methods. The incumbent will develop, collect, and disseminate educational resource materials and publications (publications will include but are not limited to fact sheets, guide sheets, DVD’s); develop educational resource material for and conduct in-service education; publish in extension related publications; publish applied research results in peer-reviewed journals; seek and secure extramural program support; work as a team with other state specialists and LUCE satellite office professionals; cultivate relationships with various community, state, and federal stakeholders; and work with ethnically diverse and limited resource individuals, families and farmers. The candidate may occasionally be required to teach classes in the department of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

| Qualifications: | Required qualifications: an earned Ph.D. in horticulture or plant science with knowledge and experience related to commercial fruit production, strong written and oral communication skills, and computer proficiency. Preferred qualifications: at least two years working with low income, ethnically diverse and underserved audiences in informal group settings; the ability to produce educational materials written at or below a sixth grade reading level; the ability to understand, speak and read Spanish.
