Softball Head Coach - Lori Reyes

Lori Reyes, who hails from El Paso, Texas is entering her second year as head coach of the Lincoln University Blue Tigers softball team. Her coaching experience has consisted of stops at several levels including high school, junior college and NCAA Division I and II programs.

Reyes spent her playing career at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M. She was a four-year letter winner as an infielder at NMSU from 1993-1997. She holds the record for most put outs in a single game (17) vs. California State-Fullerton. She helped establish the Roadrunners as a competitive program with a national ranking of No. 23 in NCAA Division I both her junior and senior years. Reyes earned her Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language in 1997 and immediately began coaching her former teammates during the 1997-98 academic year as an assistant coach at NMSU.

Prior to becoming the head coach at Lincoln University, she spent one year at Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC, Rangely, Colo.) as the head coach, responsible for all aspects of the women’s softball program.

Prior to being at CNCC, she was the graduate assistant at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Her responsibilities included overseeing the academic progress of the student-athletes, as well as instruction in the outfield and hitting areas. In her first season she helped TAMUK to a third place finish in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament with a 35-21 overall record. In her second season, TAMUK fell short of a regional berth, but posted another 30-plus win season with a mark of 31-24. Reyes also served as an instructor in the Health and Kinesiology Department and earned her Master of Science in Kinesiology from TAMUK in June 2004.

During the 2001-2002 academic year, Reyes was the head softball coach at Lake Sumter Community College (LSCC) in Leesburg, Fla. As concerned about her athlete’s performance off the field as on, two players earned Academic All-America honors for LSCC. Reyes has also served as an assistant at El Paso Community College where she was responsible for the development of the pitching staff and also hitting development. Her experience at the high school level came during the academic years of 1998 through May 2000 when she was the head softball coach at Onate High School in Las Cruces, N.M. She was named the 1999 District 3-4A Coach of the Year by turning around the program from a 4-18 record to 12-10.

Reyes has served as an instructor at several camps and clinics in New Mexico, Texas, Colorado and Florida. Reyes has high hopes to establish the Blue Tiger Softball program into a Heartland Conference challenger as well as a South Central Region contender.
